Several years ago, I went with my mom and several others to the Philippines. We were there to celebrate the first CMM graduating class.
This is my sister-in-law, Karen Fontana. She was Michael's wife, my brother, and she was the guest speaker.
These are some of the students.
This was our whole group with the graduating class.
My sweet mom speaking to the audience.
After a few days, we drove farther north, right on the South China Sea, to dedicate a building that was built for my brother Michael.
To get to the camp we had to go in by jeep. That's my cute mom in the front seat.
It "ain't" easy getting out of one of those jeeps.
Our first view overlooking an inlet in the South China Sea.
Of course, we had to go into the water. This is Karen, her sister, Julie, and me.
This goo in the sand was like tar, and really hard to get off of our feet!
This is the building they had built at the campground.
A bunch of the campers posing surrounding my mom.
I had fun getting a picture with a lot of the girls.
This is such a classic photo of my mom. She was dedicating this building to her son, Michael, who had died before the trip.
I loved these colorful jeepneys, a popular mode of transportation in the Philippines.
After leaving the campground, we went to one of the churches CMM sponsors.
This was a typical scene we saw along the roads.
What I noticed when taking this photo was that the woman was doing all of the work while the man was RESTING! = )
Another view of the church with the welcome sign out front.
Some of the younger children weren't quite sure who we were! It took awhile to get smiles out of them.
There were a lot of cooking pots around.
They had something cooking here.
This was the kitchen area.
I always wondered how they could sit like this for such a long time. I tried it....it hurt!
I turned around and this man was coming toward me.
I was so surprised when he stopped and let me get a picture of him...smiling.
These little kids were just so cute.
This little one wasn't real happy about having her picture taken.
I caught this one when she wasn't looking. She is just so adorable.
I found a picture of my brother, Michael, with a group of people from the church. He had been there a few years earlier.
This is Jorge, the director of the trip, and I am putting my life on the line with him driving this thing.
RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!
We have gone back to Laoag City for some sightseeing.
Once in a while, we saw people traveling back and forth with these horse-drawn wagons.
The tricycles, bikes with side seats, were the most popular type of transportation.
Now going over this bridge was a bit scary.
Believe it or not, this was a Shell gas station.
All of the jeepneys were so colorful.
Her father was the driver of this bike, and she kept peeking around the side to see if I was still there.
Look at this....a Safeway store in the Philippines. Who knew!
We've hit the souvenir shops. I loved my hat.
Decisions...decisions. Which one should I get!
Hey! Back at cha, dude!
Getting ready for another wild ride!
The fruit from these markets was wonderful.
I didn't see too many of these new ones. I loved the yellow.
Have hat, will travel!
We got to take a ride in one of these horse-drawn carriages.
Ahhhh...they were so cute.
Another cute little gal.
Look out! I'm gonna show you how to drive this sucker!
Our time in the Philippines is over, and we are headed to the airport.
One last photo before we leave.
My mom......so pretty.
We saw this sign on the way to the airport. Awesome!
Just taking all of my firearms out of my pockets!
Saying some goodbyes.
This is such a classic photo of my mom. She was dedicating this building to her son, Michael, who had died before the trip.
It was sad having to say goodbye to this wonderful family.
One last kiss goodbye.
Even this little guy was sad to see us go.
The only plane available to fly us back to Manilla was this old German plane. I wasn't a happy camper because it looked ready to fall apart!
They had to strap mom into this contraption in order to get her on the plane.
These guys were so small, I think she was a little nervous that they would drop her!
How old was this plane? Well, it had OVAL windows. I haven't seen those for years.
A strange thing happened when we landed in Manilla. The flight attendant got off of the plane, the pilots got off, and we were left to fend for ourselves. AND we weren't even close to the terminal! Geesh Louise!
After that plane experience, it was so good to see our hotel.
This was my hotel room.
This time I wasn't afraid to see Jorge in the driver's seat! = (
I took this from my hotel room balcony. Look at this traffic!
This time our experience at the airport was much better.
Leaving the Philippine Islands.
This is mom on the Wiki Wiki bus that takes you around the airport in Honolulu.
We had a group photo taken before we all parted ways.
We flew to Kona, on the Big Island, to visit with my cousin, Lois. Mom looked so pretty with the little orchid in her hair.
Having a delicious lunch overlooking the bay in Kona.
My beautiful mom before we left Kona.
