PAR000 002.jpg
I took this photo as we were flying over the Atlantic on our way to Paris.
PAR000 003.jpg
We are flying over the out skirts of Paris.
PAR000 004.jpg
Right before we landed, we could see the shadow of the plane.
PAR001 001.jpg
This is the street our hotel is on.
PAR002 001.jpg
My parents had taken me to Paris when I was 11, and we stayed in this hotel. When I took my daughter, Erica, we stayed in the same place.
PAR003 001.jpg
This was the window to our room. The hotel is run by a French family, and although the hotel is small, all the rooms are very clean and comfortable.
PAR004 001.jpg
This is my daughter Erica hanging out in the window listening to all the different noises you can hear on these small streets.
PAR005 001.jpg
I love the European breakfasts. They serve the most wonderful and flaky croissants with the best tasting hot chocolate you've ever had.
PAR006 001.jpg
If you want breakfast in your room, it will look like this. My mouth waters just thinking about the bread.
PAR007 001.jpg
This is a photo of my mom and sister, Rosie, walking down the little street after leaving our little hotel.
PAR008 001.jpg
This is my daughter and me in front of the Place de la Madeleine, the church know for the big columns in front. You can see the columns in the previous photo.
PAR009 001.jpg
After spending time visiting the church, we went on to the Paris Opera house. We liked being able to see the private boxes that the rich and famous got to use during the opera performances.
PAR010 001.jpg
I had to take a photo of this sign at the bus stop because my dad's name was Sidney, and he loved Paris.
PAR011 001.jpg
This man was on his way home after work. I guess the wife told him to bring a loaf of bread. I bought a loaf and it is so good.
PAR013 001.jpg
After we figured it out, taking the metro was fairly simple, and it was a great and fast way to get around.
PAR014 001.jpg
Poor Erica was so tired from all our walking today.
PAR015 001.jpg
After a good rest, we headed over to the Eiffel Tower.
PAR016 001.jpg
Close to the Eiffel Tower was this wonderful double decker merry-go-round.
PAR017 001.jpg
We are riding the cable car on our way up to the top. It was only a bit scary.
PAR018 001.jpg
A view from the top.
PAR019 001.jpg
This is looking down from the other side.
PAR020 001.jpg
This is my sister Rosie with me at the top on a very cold day.
PAR021 001.jpg
This is what the inside of the Eiffel Tower looks. We were going down and another cable car was going up.
PAR022 001.jpg
There are artists everywhere. These were on the steps going down to the Seine River.
PAR023 001.jpg
Erica and I decided to take a boat tour along the Seine.
PAR024 001.jpg
In the summer there are a lot of people sitting on the banks of the river.
PAR025 001.jpg
We walked over to the Trocadero Gardens and got this pretty view looking back at the Eiffel Tower.
PAR026 001.jpg
It's important to appreciate Parisian artwork!
PAR027 001.jpg
Here is my little Parisian daughter. She got lots of looks from the boys.
PAR028 001.jpg
And who is this young lady? It's ME! My fist visit to the Eiffel Tower was when I was eleven.
PAR029 001.jpg
And MANY years later, I was there with my daughter.
PAR030 001.jpg
This was taken at the metro station. I was surprised to see wheels on the train.
PAR031 001.jpg
This is the memorial put up in honor of Princess Diana.
PAR032 001.jpg
This is the entrance to the tunnel where Diana was killed.
PAR033 001.jpg
People wrote so many wonderful things for her around the memorial.
PAR034 001.jpg
One last look at the cars entering the Pont d' Alma tunnel.
PAR035 001.jpg
Sometimes we took one of these buses to our next destination.
PAR036 001.jpg
This cute picture was taken as we were walking along the Rue Boissy D'Anglas. It wasn't hard to get him to take a picture with Erica.
PAR037 001.jpg
I was buying some of these beautiful scarves that are so popular.
PAR038 001.jpg
You can buy the bread by the bag or individually.
PAR039 001.jpg
This is the Place de la Concorde, one of the major public squares in Paris. The ferris wheel is called the La Grande Roue, and is another great way to see Paris. It was a great ride!
PAR040 001.jpg
One of the many things I love about Paris are these outdoor tables.
PAR041 001.jpg
This is Erica sitting at one of these delightful outside tables.
PAR042 001.jpg
We caught this woman walking home after doing her shopping. Of course, she had the bread in her bag.
PAR043 001.jpg
I wonder if she bought one of these chickens. Yum!
PAR044 001.jpg
I found this photo of my mom and me sitting at one of the outside tables. She always looked so cute with her tams.
PAR045 001.jpg
The sign showing us the way to the Louvre.
PAR046 001.jpg
Here we are at the Louvre, the world's largest palace and museum. The glass pyramid is in stark contrast to the Louvre. It holds shops and restaurants.
PAR047 001.jpg
She is standing next to Venus de Milo, an ancient Greek statue, and one of the most famous works of Greek sculpture. It is believed to be Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
PAR048 001.jpg
Everyone wants to see the Mona Lisa, a famous 16th century portrait by Leonardo da Vinci. It's her mysterious smile that has been the talk over generations. No matter where you stand, her eyes follow you.
PAR049 001.jpg
This is looking down one of the MANY hallways of the Louvre. You would need days to really see most of the museum.
PAR050 001.jpg
The Winged Victory, discovered in 1863, is estimated to have been created in 190 B.C. It was created to honor the goddess Nike, and to honor a sea battle. An earthquake is said to be the cause of the damage. The statue was a favorite of Frank Lloyd Wright.
PAR051 001.jpg
There is a dungeon in the basement, and it's really creepy. One of the displays was this device called "The Rack." Wouldn't that be a horrible way to die!
PAR052 001.jpg
The Avenue Des Champs Elysees is the most famous street in the world, and where the rich and famous like to shop and dine. It remains the most expensive piece of real estate in Europe.
PAR053 001.jpg
I'm standing at the center of Place Charles DeGaule, at the west end of the Champs Elysees. Behind me is the famous Arc de Triomphe. The arch honors those who fought for France, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. Underneath is the tomb of the unknown soldier from WWI.
PAR054 001.jpg
It was summer when Erica and I visited the Arch of Triumph. Once again, she had her photo taken with one of the guards.
PAR055 001.jpg
This is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a grave and memorial for the remains of an unidentified soldier from WWI!
PAR056 001.jpg
This is the other end of the tomb.
PAR057 001.jpg
We ate here A LOT! For one thing, it was one of the only places we could get ice in our soda. The other reason was that it was cheap!
PAR059 001.jpg
One of our last stops was at the Cathedral of Notre Dame. It's always been the religious center of Paris. It isn't the largest cathedral in the world, but it might be the most famous. It is also known for the beautiful circular Rose Window.
PAR060 001.jpg
This was taken at the side of the cathedral showing one of the many ornate lamps.
PAR061 001.jpg
One last look at the cathedral with a good view of the Rose Window.
PAR062 001.jpg
Looking at the Eiffel Tower on our last night in Paris.
