Cover photo for Bangkok.
The sun is rising as I head toward the city of Bangkok.
After arriving, and going through customs, we head out on a city tour.
These little vehicles are called Tuk Tuk, and they are the most famous type of transportation in Bangkok.
The city is full of motorcycles, and seems to be the main transportation for people who live there.
I just couldn't get over all of these TV antennas.
Still resting on the way to work.
"Stop, in the naaaame of love before you break my heart!" Sorry Diana. This is one of the many policemen we saw in Bangkok.
Boy, the streets were so congested.
I have NO IDEA what this machine was, but it sure was odd.
Bangkok is a very loud city. I would not want to have to drive around this place.
Here's a tuk-tuk being used by the locals.
We passed by a boy's school, and they were all dressed in pink.
It was election time, so there were signs everywhere. BIG signs!
These flowers were hanging everywhere. I don't know their name, but they smelled so good.
Buses were also used a lot by the local people.
I always like to take pictures of signs in different cities.
This is a really ornate arch over the highway.
This is a close up of the same arch. It almost looks like Big Ben on top of the elephant.
Our hotel in Bangkok was very nice and clean.
I love it when the hotels have the clocks that show the time around the world.
The bed was so comfy.
Now we are visiting the Chakri Maha Prasat Hall, known as the Grand Palace. What a spectacle it is. It has 100 brightly colored buildings, golden spires and glittering mosaics that date back to 1782, when Bangkok was founded.
Not only are the buildings unbelievable, the architecture of the trees is also amazing.
This is Wat Phra Kaew, the temple the Emerald Buddha. Along with the Grand Palace, this is Bankok's greatest spectacle.
A close up of the golden seal.
I loved these trees, so I wanted my picture taken in front of one of them.
This area and view is the main atttraction.
I'm heading up to the main temple.
Talk about a photographers's paradise. Every time you turned around there was another awesome place photograph.
This was the mosaic inlay over the gate.
Each spire seems to get more beautiful than the last.
There many monks walking around the Grand Palace.
A monk entering a phra ubosot, a prayer room in a Buddhist wat or temple.
The pans under the prayer table are for pennies, which will be given to the monks.
This is a gilded statue guard in the royal Palace.
This statue is Kinnon, a mythical creature that is half man and half animal.
This is a statue at one of the temples.
It looks like he is just chillin'.
This is Yak, the colorful mythical giant guardian at Wat Phra Keow.
This shows the detail on the Emerald Buddha Temple.
This shows the top part of Phra Mondop, the library at the Grand Palace.
This was one of my favorite temples.
Hey! I can do that! = )
Being at the Grand Palace yesterday was like reliving the musical "the King and I." Today we are taking an excursion of the waterways of Bangkok. This is our boat arriving.
I'm freakin' hot and the sweat is pouring, but I'm still having a great time.
Bangkok is criss-crossed with klongs, or canals, that are major commercial waterways for the city.
Here are two of the boats that took us around.
You can see the Grand Palace in the background.
This is the Khmer-inspired tower named "Temple of Dawn." It is one of the best known landmarks and one of the most published images of Bangkok.
Many people still use their boats as their homes.
I loved how this lady had fixed up her home with all of the plants.
We are on the Chao Phraya River, and it is full of these long-tailed colorful taxi boats.
Still hot, sweat still running down my back, but so enjoying this river cruise.
We docked here to have a wonderful lunch at the Rose Garden Restaurant.
After a delicious lunch, we were back on the boat and finished up our river tour.
On my last day in Bangkok, I was able to walk around and just get a feel for the locals.
These workers were taking time out for lunch.
This seemed to be the typical look of the streets with everyone selling their wares.
A group of policemen standing around, and I'm pretty sure that they were watching the girls! = )
They were sitting outside of a small grocery store.
It looks like business might be a little slow.
A lot of times when I am doing a cross-word puzzle, I will see the question that asks what is another word for rent.....the answer is let. So I just had to take a photo of the sign.
I bought quite a few souvenirs in this shop.
Bangkok is heavily congested with traffic, very hot and humid, and a lot of naughty nightlife. It's definitely a rush for your senses. It's exotic, bustling and the culture never ceases to amaze you. I recommend it as a wonderful place to visit.
This is the hotel staff telling us goodbye as we leave for the airport.
Heading home.
