XIA001 001.jpg
Arriving at the Xian Sheraton Hotel after a flight from Beijing.
XIA002 001.jpg
After a night's rest, our group started on a tour of the city. Look at the pink cheeks on this little guy.
XIA003 001.jpg
It was lunch time when we were on our tour.
XIA004 001.jpg
I was beginning to wonder where the women were.
XIA005 001~0.jpg
Going through these streets made me so thankful of where I live.
XIA006 001.jpg
Oops!
XIA007 001.jpg
It seems like such a sad place to live.
XIA008 001.jpg
We saw this group of Chinese soldiers walking down the road.
XIA009 001.jpg
This is one mode of transporting their goods around.
XIA010 001.jpg
His job is delivering bamboo across town.
XIA011 001.jpg
I would say that it is probably wash day.
XIA012 001.jpg
They stopped working long enough for me to get their picture.
XIA013 001.jpg
We saw this huge ferris wheel but no one was on it.
XIA014 001.jpg
I was wondering why the little girl wasn't riding in the cart.
XIA015 001.jpg
China's interpretation of U-Haul!
XIA016 001.jpg
There seemed to be a haze over the entire city.
XIA017 001.jpg
We stopped at a school and some of the children practiced their English with us.
XIA018 001.jpg
This little girl was so cute. The book she was reading was written in English.
XIA019 001.jpg
The teacher demonstrated some Chinese art.
XIA020 001.jpg
We have arrived at the main attraction of Xian......the Terra Cotta Warriors.
XIA021 001.jpg
We have arrived at China's greatest archaeological attraction, the Qin Mausoleum. More than 2000 years ago, the "Emperor Qin Shi Huang was buried in an earth mound, along with more than 6000 life-sized terra cotta warriors, archers, and infantrymen, together with their horse and chariots.
XIA022 001.jpg
Standing alongside one of the warriors and his horse.
XIA023 001.jpg
In the early 1970's, farmers digging a well accidentally uncovered some of the buried soldiers. This is the man that found them first. I felt so lucky to meet him.
XIA024 001.jpg
THIS IS IT! Absolutely breathtaking. Three large pits have been uncovered and walkways have been constructed to give you a bird's-eye view.
XIA025 001.jpg
I'm standing in front of the biggest pit.
XIA026 001.jpg
I've moved off to the side to get a different view. You can see that they are still uncovering some of the soldiers.
XIA027 001.jpg
I was able to use my telephoto lens to get up close and personal.
XIA028 001.jpg
This whole thing is just so unbelievable, and to know I met the man that discovered it is incredible.
XIA029 001.jpg
This is the second pit they have discovered. Each man and each horse has its own distinct personality. Wow.
XIA030 001.jpg
These have just been unearthed.
XIA031 001.jpg
This shows how they work on each section.
XIA032 001.jpg
This is that same pit taken from the other side.
XIA033 001.jpg
After viewing the warriors, I went into the shop where you could buy replicas of the warriors. These are two of the people helping in the store.
XIA034 001.jpg
This is what part of the store looks like. People did actually buy some of these big soldiers.
XIA035 001.jpg
I bought one of these pieces of pottery you see in the background. I couldn't believe I got it home without it breaking.
XIA036 001.jpg
This is a closer view of the pottery pieces.
XIA037 001.jpg
They had some of the warriors in the store so the public could get a close view.
XIA038 001.jpg
After leaving the Mausoleum, we walked along the street where there were tons of people selling their goods. Many of them were beautiful and I did buy some things.
XIA039 001.jpg
This is a close up of one of the stands. I bought several things for the grand kids.
XIA040 001.jpg
These ladies wanted to see what I had bought in the mausoleum. I was keeping my fingers crossed that nothing would break.
XIA041 001.jpg
This gal kept following me around so I decided to take a picture of her, which she loved.
XIA042 001.jpg
That night at dinner, we were able to enjoy a Tang Dynasty cultural show.
XIA043 001.jpg
In the first part of the show, the acrobats performed.
XIA044 001.jpg
They were amazing.
XIA045 001.jpg
After the acrobats, the dancing part of the show began.
XIA046 001.jpg
I didn't quite understand some of it, but it was still interesting.
XIA047 001.jpg
This gal was absolutely exquisite with her dancing.
XIA048 001.jpg
Our dinner table was in the back of the room, but I sneaked up to the front and sat on the floor to get some of these shots! = ) It was fun!
XIA049 001.jpg
They are all so graceful. I'm sure they learn this at an early age.
XIA050 001.jpg
This is the beginning of the finale. Some of these girls were quite young and so beautiful.
XIA051 001.jpg
This cultural show was a nice way to end our stay in Xian.
