23 viewsThis is Mt. Sodom, a hill along the southwestern part of the Dead Sea. What is remarkable about it, is that it is almost entirely made of salt. Yup.....it's salty! This is where the Biblical event of Sodom and Gomorrah supposedly happened, and one of the pillars on the hill is actually named "Lot's Wife."

23 viewsThanks to the "pull" from our director, Dr. Coke, we were able to go to the city of Hebron. It's the largest city in the West Bank.
23 viewsThe kids were really cute and seemed happy to see us.
23 viewsHe was giving us a great lesson in how to mold and make the earthenware.
23 viewsThis is the beautiful city of Haifa.
23 viewsWe're just "hangin" out in Haifa.
23 viewsWe arrived in Joppa just in time to get some beautiful sunset pictures.
23 viewsI thought this was such a beautiful photo of the top of the cathedral.
23 viewsI thought riding on it would be scary. It isn't at all. There are 32 "pods" that make a complete revolution every half hour.
23 viewsThis was taken inside the pod. I recommend this ride if you are going to go to London. Just make sure you make your reservation before you go, or as soon as you arrive in London. It fills up fast.
23 viewsFrom this view, you are looking down on Parliament, Big Ben, the Westminster Bridge, and, of course, the Thames River.
23 viewsIt's a great tour spot or field trip for kids.
23 viewsThis is one of the decks that is so good for walking.
23 viewsIt looks like someone isn't paying attention!
23 viewsNow I was beginning to see what it was.
23 viewsThere were no school busses here. They took their children to school by boat.
23 viewsThis guy didn't look too friendly!
23 viewsThe first thing you notice when you enter is the sign that tells you that no shoes are allowed.
23 viewsIt looked pretty good when she finished.
23 viewsLand ho!!! The Philippines are coming into view.
23 viewsOur bus got up close so that I could take this picture of some of our group riding in the jeepney.
23 viewsI love having breakfast on the balcony.
23 viewsMaybe I shouldn't have! = )
23 viewsI just plopped down in one of these chairs when I got back.

23 viewsIf you want breakfast in your room, it will look like this. My mouth waters just thinking about the bread.
23 viewsI was buying some of these beautiful scarves that are so popular.
23 viewsYou can buy the bread by the bag or individually.
23 viewsThis is the Place de la Concorde, one of the major public squares in Paris. The ferris wheel is called the La Grande Roue, and is another great way to see Paris. It was a great ride!
23 viewsThe Winged Victory, discovered in 1863, is estimated to have been created in 190 B.C. It was created to honor the goddess Nike, and to honor a sea battle. An earthquake is said to be the cause of the damage. The statue was a favorite of Frank Lloyd Wright.

23 viewsThis is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a grave and memorial for the remains of an unidentified soldier from WWI!
23 viewsHmmmmm...not real excited about getting on this guy.
22 viewsThis is just one of the things you can do while you are on board the ship.
22 viewsI took this photo from my cabin's balcony, and you can see that it is beginning to get just a little rough.
22 viewsAs we were going along the channel, we could see so many of these beautiful waterfalls.
22 viewsWow....the ice seems to getting a lot thicker.
22 viewsThis is just amazing!
22 viewsThe next day we arrived at Port Lockroy. This will be our first landing, and my first peek at the penguins. I've been so anxious to get up close to them. Port Lockroy is a natural harbor. It was used for whaling, and for British military operations during WWII. It was later turned into a British research station.

22 viewsThis was one of my favorite temples.
22 viewsWhen he wasn't looking, I took a picture of his foot. And to think he walked so far on these poor feet.
22 viewsWhen they first arrived, they were given a number. He was quite proud of his.
22 viewsStep 3, show off baby! I'm afraid if I tried that, I would wind up slinging that baby across the road! = )
22 viewsAhhhhhh...he was so cute.
22 viewsI felt pretty special being shown around the base. Some of these planes were so awesome looking.
22 viewsAnother great hat.
22 viewsAfter throwing this over her shoulder, then she picked up this heavy pot.
22 viewsThis little girl was so sad. Look at the tear in her eye.
22 viewsThere were tons of dignitaries there, which is why there was so much security.
22 viewsAfter a couple of pretty intense days, it was time to relax and do some sightseeing.
22 viewsIt's time for a little group photo.
22 viewsMany of his staff were invited to eat with us.
22 views I can't begin to tell you how great this lunch was. So delicious! It really hit the spot.
22 viewsOn our last day, we went to the Galeria, the big marketplace in Cochabamba.
22 viewsHow about a little chicken for your supper.
22 viewsThis was the way out to the swimming pool area.
22 viewsAfter a much needed rest to get rid of some of the jet lag, we started out on a tour of the city. Even through the smog, you could see the McDonald's sign.
22 viewsAnother place to get some lunch. No, not me, just the locals.
22 viewsI had never seen pandas before. They are just so cute.
22 viewsI am on my way to Tiananmen Square, the largest city square in the world.
22 viewsThere were so many families there.
22 viewsThere is a significant police presence at the Square. Police and military patrol in vans containing a squadron of forces ready for immediate action. Even with the Chinese army guards walking around everywhere, I was totally at ease.
22 viewsWe also got to walk around and see street scenes like this. Lots of kids were playing soccer.
22 viewsMost of the kids seemed used to seeing tourists around.
22 viewsYou crossed over many gates like this one.
22 viewsThis is part of the Emperor's private garden. It was used exclusively by the imperial family to sip tea, play chess, meditate and generally relax.
22 viewsThis is the exit from the Forbidden City. That tour was amazing, but boy, am I pooped. It took all day, and we only saw a part of it, but it's a must see for Beijing.
22 viewsJust a block away from my hotel is the Beijing Hard Rock Cafe, so, of course, I have to go.
22 viewsNow we are heading to the Summer Palace, which is the largest imperial garden in the world. The construction was started in 1750 by Emperor Qianlong as a birthday gift to his mother. It took fifteen years to complete.
22 viewsThis is the inside of the temple showing the altar where the emperors would pray for favorable weather.
22 viewsCaught this cute little guy as I was walking around.
22 viewsI thought they were playing checkers, but someone said it was chess.
22 viewsThe following day, our guides took us to the large Chinese stores where you could buy the nicer things. This man was printing my name on a very small seed.
22 viewsTheir work was so precise and intricate.
22 viewsWe could tell we were getting closer after we went through this arch.
22 viewsAfter a rest, I got up and started climbing again. What made it hard was some steps were low and then the next one would be high. I don't know how many times I tripped! = )
22 viewsComing down wasn't much easier. I really felt it in the knees.
22 viewsI feel great! That was some adventure, and I'm proud of myself for doing it.
22 viewsI bought a "I Climbed the Great Wall" sweatshirt from this sweet lady.
